I painted this storm scene of Fort Houmet Herbe in 2025.  We use to rent Mermaid Cottage, part of Manez Lighthouse opposite the Victorian fort, where our kitchen sink window overlooked the fort and it was a common discussion as to how long the closest column would last before collapsing into the sea.  It's still there 10 years later but every winter storm brings the same question to mind.  

Seabirds including shags and gulls use the fort for resting and breeding and even on this blustery day there were shags standing, centry duty like, on the column, whilst sea spray filled the air around them.
